CDV is a clear chest-up view of an unknown Union officer. He wears a dark frock coat with 2^nd lieutenant shoulder straps.

The image is clear and has good contrast. Paper and mount have light scattered surface dirt. Mount edges have been trimmed round. The right middle edge has a small crease and a tear that stops just short of the subject’s neck.
