CDV is a clear chest-up view of an unknown Union officer. He wears a dark frock coat with 2nd lieutenant shoulder straps.

The image is clear and has good contrast. Paper and mount have light scattered surface dirt. Mount edges have been trimmed round. The right middle edge has a small crease and a tear that stops just short of the subject’s neck.
