CDV is of William B. Murray wearing a dark double-breasted frock coat with shoulder knots.
Image is clear with good contrast and is mostly clean.
Reverse has no photographer’s imprint but does have a period ink inscription that reads “YOUR COUSIN, WILL.”
ID is confirmed as Murray by a similar ID image being offered online.
William B. Murray was born in Iowa. He was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Marine Corps on July 2, 1864. He was stationed at Mound City, Illinois from December of 1864 to February of 1866. In March of that year he was assigned to the Navy Yard at Brooklyn from which he was assigned to the Marine detachment on board the USS LACKAWANNA. Murry remained abord the USS LACKAWANNA until January 20, 1869 when he was assigned to Mare Island, California. He was promoted to 1st lieutenant on August 2, 1869 and remained at Mare Island until his arrest in January of 1871. Murray was dismissed from the service by sentence of a General Court Martial on May 27, 1871. What offense Murray committed to be dismissed is not known. [ad]
