Image is believed to be of a South Carolina officer but there is no photographer’s imprint and any details on his buttons cannot be discerned. Image is from the collection of the late William A. Turner.
CDV is a knees-up view of an officer wearing dark frockcoat and trousers. At his waist is his sword belt with rectangular plate and sash. He rests his hand on a low table on which his kepi sits. The cap is the same color as the coat and trousers but with a light stripe around the base of the crown.
Contrast and clarity are passable. The image does have a decidedly sepia toned appearance.
Mount is an unusual blue stock with “ASV” in period ink on the reverse. [ad] [ph:L]
