View shows a soldier wearing a dark slouch hat, dark four button sack coat, light trousers and boots mounted on a medium colored horse. The rider and his mount are posed in front of a clump of trees obscuring most of the background but the details can be made out. They type of bit and headstall are clearly seen as are the reins, saddle and blanket. Just in front of the horse are what appears to be two poles of a tepee shaped frame. Also running behind the horse is a horizontal beam that looks like a hitch rail.

The dark coat and hat of the rider tend to blend in with the trees behind him a bit but otherwise the clarity and contrast is good. Mat is scalloped and frame is the usual.

Leather case has a repaired hinge with some gray tape residue on each side. Leather is embossed with a linear and floral decoration.    [ad]
