The thermoplastic case is circular and meas. approx. 1.75 inches across. Both sides have a raised geometric decoration that is in wonderful condition. Design is very pronounced and has no chips or cracks. The two halves screw and unscrew perfectly.
When separated one half holds a small gem-sized tintype of a bearded 1st Lieutenant with slightly messy hair wearing a dark frock coat. The buttons, border of the shoulder straps and the 1st Lieutenant’s rank bars are all touched with gilt.
Image has good clarity and contrast. It is housed in a stamped brass frame with a beaded border.
This is a wonderful little personal item that was probably carried by this officer’s mother, sister or wife. [ad]
