QUARTER-PLATE TINTYPE OF SEATED UNION INFANTRY OFFICER

$250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1117-135

Image is of an unknown Union infantry officer posed seated and holding a Model 1850 Foot Officer’s sword in his lap. He wears a dark forage cap with a barely visible infantry hunting horn insignia on the front. He has a dark overcoat draped over his shoulders, a dark frockcoat with matching trousers and a waistbelt with a pattern 1851 NCO plate. Stuffed in his belt is a large revolver, probably a Colt.

Unfortunately, the image has two blemishes where the emulsion failed to cover the plate. One spot is on the subject’s wrist and the other is on his knee. Contrast and clarity are good. There is no glass so the image has light scattered dirt on its surface.

Brass mat and frame have the usual scroll decorations and minor surface dirt.

Leather case is complete and shows moderate to heavy wear.    [AD]
