Full standing view of a young, cleanshaven armed Union soldier posed by a podium which holds a small US flag on a staff.
The subject wears a dark forage cap with four-button sack coat and matching trousers. He also wears his accoutrements consisting of a cartridge box and sling with gilt breast plate, waist belt with cap box, bayonet and scabbard and gilt oval US plate. He holds what looks to be a Model 1842 musket with bayonet attached at the position of “ORDER ARMS.” The soldier’s bayonet is still present in its scabbard so the musket and fixed bayonet are probably photographer’s props. Subjects cheeks are also lightly rose tinted.
Clarity is good, contrast is excellent. A close look at the image reveals the outline of a narrower brass mat than the scalloped one that is present now. Image comes with its stamped brass frame and full leather case
Very nice patriotic image. [ad] [ph:L]
