This iron hammer was found at General J.W. Davidson’s cavalry division’s camp in Arcadia, Missouri. Measures 9” long x 3 ¾” wide. Displays light surface rust and pitting.

Hammer came from the collection of Dr. Francis Lord (1911- 2006), one of the earliest authors of ten Civil War books, including, “The Civil War Encyclopedia”. He served under Patton in WWII and was a lifelong collector, author, and contributor to the preservation of Civil War History. He was elected 12 years as governor of the Company of Military Historians, was contributing editor of the Civil War Times and wrote extensively for North South Trader as well as many other periodicals. President Eisenhower named him one of three commissioners to oversee the national activities of the centennial celebration of the Civil War.  [sm]
