This is an excavated “eagle” plate for the shoulder strap of the infantry cartridge box. Brass face has a nice patina. The plate’s reverse has 100% of the lead fill. The two iron loops have rusted off. This relic was recovered at Kernstown. A label on the back details the date and location of the recovery. An original “dug” Civil War enlistedman’s eagle breast plate. [jet]
