These three dug bullets - two US .58 cal. Minie Balls and one Williams Cleaner Type II - were converted to pins for veterans and tourists. At the top of each is a circular 1 ¼” dia. pin with red lettering, “BATTLE OF CRATER / SOUVENIR / PETERSBURG, VA / July 30 / 1864”. Attached is a narrow red, white & blue section of cloth ribbon approx. 1 ½” in length. A small metal hook has been inserted in each bullet to allow it to be attached to the ribbon. One bullet is pinned to the remains of a cardboard mount with “SOUVENIRS / GENUINE BULLETS FOUND CIVIL WAR BATTLEFIELDS AT / PETERSBURG, VA”. The pins themselves are in very good condition with minor soiling to the pin faces. There is one additional pin which is missing it’s accompanying bullet. [ld] [ph:L]
