Original Civil War patent “Eyelet Hook”. Non-dug example of this unusual button. Typical brass enlistedman’s “eagle button” face. Tin back with iron wire spring hook. Used to close overcoats, ponchos, and tent flaps.  Examples of these have been excavated from Civil War sites. An interesting and unusual button for your collection.   [jet]
