Victorian era box meant for holding gentleman’s collars features a gutta percha lid and stained wooden bottom. Hinged lid shows scrollwork designs in the corners with an image of Pope Pius IX in the center. Original clasp is present, but one peg is missing, making it loose. Inside three new collars remain, still in their paper wrappings. Packaging is marked, “ARROW SOFT COLLARS”. Inside of box lid, is a paper label from Wilson & Ross of Trenton, NJ.  Small label on front reads, “16”. Underside of box is stamped, “SCOVILL MFG. CO. N.Y.”

Box measures 4 ¾” square by 3 ¼” tall. . Wood shows very light surface scratches or scuffs.

This would be a splendid and functional item for a gentleman of today, just as it was in the 19th century.  [sl]
