Hat is made of pressed black felt and is in good condition. The top of the crown has what may be an old repair or crease. The right side has some very tiny pinholes from removed insignia. Other than that the hat is very nice. The edge of the brim has two parallel lines of stitching. Around the base of the crown is an Infantry hat cord and black ostrich plume. Just below the top edge of the crown is a stamped brass Company letter “C” approx. 1.00-inch tall. Below the Company letter are the Regimental numbers “13.” These are also made of stamped brass 1.00 inch tall. Below the numbers is the standard issue Infantry hunting horn insignia. The left side of the brim is turned up and held in place by the 1851 stamped brass Eagle insignia. The interior of the hat is excellent. The ox-blood sweatband is complete and exhibits light signs of wear. The left side of the sweatband has one weak area that meas. approx. 1.00 x 1.00 inch. The label in the crown is only slightly faded. The label is an eagle over cannon, flags and a shield and reads “US ARMY” over the top and “EXTRA MANUFACTURE” across the bottom.
