Standard issue dark blue wool shell jacket with red piping on collar and cuffs and red trim down the front and along the edges.

Jacket has 12-button front with two buttons on each side of the collar. Back center has both pillows. Both cuffs are functioning. One of the buttons on the left cuff is loose but present. The body of the jacket is in excellent condition. There are no signs of wear and no mothing can be detected. The piping and trim retain their original bright red color. All buttons are original and are General Service eagle buttons. Most have SCOVILLE back marks with several being blank on the reverse.  All exterior seams are tight. Collar has single hook and eye closure at base.

Interior is lined with a brown wool material and has a vertical pocket in the left breast. Sleeves are lined with white muslin. There is a section of seam below the right armpit where the thread has split for approx. 1.00 inch. Right upper sleeve interior is stamped with a “2” and two dots along with a blurry Sub-Inspector’s mark. The body lining has only one or two minor stress separations which are barely worth mentioning.

Jacket is clean overall and is really a first-rate example of a Civil War Artillery shell jacket.  [ad]
