CHASSEUR UNIFORM EPAULETTES

$295.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 195-105

These epaulettes were for the French Chasseur uniforms issued to the 62nd and 83rd Pennsylvania and the 18th Massachusetts. The three regiments were the winners of a drill competition held in the Army of the Potomac in 1862 and the French uniforms were the prize. Part of the uniform was these green worsted wool epaulets. The tops are in good condition with a green wool body and fringe and a yellow-bordered clamshell outlined in twisted yellow cord. However the brown polished cotton under linings are almost completely gone exposing the cardboard stiffener. The tip of one of the cardboard pieces has broken off but is present. The tops are in very nice shape and will display well.
