Stamped metal license plate that meas. approx. 10.00 x 5.00 inches. It has a red backing with a black border. The left side is dominated by a large blue & gray yin-yang while the right side has “VIRGINIA NATIONAL GUARD” in raised black lettering.
The plate was originally wrapped in brown tissue paper and never unwrapped. Hence the paper rotted over the years and some has stuck to the face of the plate. This can probably be removed with some warm water and soap. The front retains about 35% of the paper while the reverse has about 90%. Some of the paint has been affected by the paper.
The 29th Infantry Division has become well-known for their part in leading the D-Day assault at Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. From Normandy to the end of the war the Division suffered 20,620 casualties. [ad]
