This black ribbon meas. approx. 1.75 inches wide x 5.00 inches long. The top bar has a brass frame with a white celluloid insert with a full color GAR membership badge printed at center flanked by the words “GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC.”
Suspended from this top bar is the main black ribbon mentioned above and a short white ribbon that meas. approx. 1.50 x 2.75 inches. This short white ribbon has crossed cloth US flags with a drop that consists of a celluloid button printed with a color scene of soldiers shaking hands near stacked muskets and a camp fire. The white ribbon hangs over the top of the black ribbon obscuring most of the body of the latter. The bottom of the black ribbon has strong silver lettering that reads “GEN’L GEARY POST NO. 90, PHILIPSBURG, PA.” Across the bottom of the ribbon is a line of gold bullion tassels.
The ribbon is in good condition and has the original pin on the back of the top bar.
The post was named after General John White Geary who served as a Union General and the 16th Governor of Pennsylvania.
