Here is a typical G.A.R. membership medal showing some wear and loss to the U.S. flag ribbon. Otherwise fine.
With the medal is a G.A.R. hat insignia. This is a brass wreath with letters “G A R” in the center. This hat pin is attached to a card with pencil notation: “Buena Park Calf June 28, 1926 / Pa’s Badge / Chester Jones”.
Not the best name to research but as it turns out, there are only four “Chester Jones” who served in the Union Army…85th NY Inf., 30th IA Inf., 17th IL Cav., and 9th KS Cav. Take your pick.
