Here is a typical G.A.R. membership medal showing some wear and loss to the U.S. flag ribbon. Otherwise fine.

With the medal is a G.A.R. hat insignia. This is a brass wreath with letters “G A R” in the center. This hat pin is attached to a card with pencil notation: “Buena Park Calf June 28, 1926 / Pa’s Badge / Chester Jones”.

Not the best name to research but as it turns out, there are only four “Chester Jones” who served in the Union Army…85^th NY Inf., 30^th IA Inf., 17^th IL Cav., and 9^th KS Cav.  Take your pick.
