British made US Model 1917 helmet with a light OD painted exterior with no sand finish. Exterior shows light wear from age use and storage. Helmet has no dents or rust spots.

Painted on the front of the helmet is a black rectangle with a silhouette of the Statue of Liberty in yellow which is the insignia of the 77th Infantry Division. Insignia is 100% intact.

Interior of helmet lacks the liner and has only part of the leather suspension system in the crown and a replaced chinstrap. Small dot of white paint with collection number marked on the rim edge near chinstrap. Both chinstrap keepers are present and attached to the helmet with split rivets.

The 77th Division was made up of drafted men mostly from New York City and saw action in the Oise-Aisne and Muse-Argonne operations. This Division also contained the famous “Lost Battalion” whose exploits have been written about often and of whom a movie was made in 1919 and 2001.

This helmet is from the collection of the late Bob Jones of McSherrystown, PA. Bob was a World War Two Navy veteran who collected World War One items from his youth.
