Steel model 1916 German helmet minus the liner. The body has an apple green surface. Back center of the crown exhibits a jagged shrapnel hole approx. 1.50 inches long with minor edge cracks no doubt caused by small shell fragment. Previous owner taped a piece of white paper to the inside of the shell to allow the hole to be more visible
Though the liner is missing two of the three liner fasteners are present along with their washers.
A wire has been attached through the air vents for hanging the helmet on a wall but this can easily be removed if desired.
Chinstrap is missing but the mounts are present. Next to the left mount the helmet is stamped “G 62” showing that it was made by Gebrueder Gnuechtel A.G., Lauter i./Sa. And is a size 62 centimeters or a size 7 3/4 .
This item is from the collection of the late Robert Jones, a World War Two Navy veteran who became interested in World War One as a child and collected through to the end of his life.
Nice relic of the Great War. [ad] [ph:m]
