Sight is made of brass and meas. approx. 9.00 inches long. At bottom is a lead filled bulb and iron trunnions. The trunnions are for anchoring the sight in a yoke on the breech of the gun.
The main bar of the site meas. approx. 7.25 inches and is hollowed in the middle for a sliding aperture. The front side of the bar is marked along its length with graduations of distance. The top of the bar is marked with a spread-winged eagle and the base of the bar, just above the bulb, is “6 PDR. GUN / U.S.” All markings are readable and the brass is in good condition.
With the sight is the original russet leather carrying case with sling. The leather shows light wear but all stitching is good and leather is supple. Sling attaches to the case by copper rivets similar to those found on Civil War Model 1855 bayonet scabbards. Case has flap that is held in place by a leather keeper.
