This rare sword has 3 known examples. This sword has a brass hilt with florally decorated branches. Douglas has several unique features to his hilt: a large mushroom shaped pommel cap; a knuckle bow that ends in a large raised circular shape; and a distinctive leather washer, extremely large, with star points on the exterior; and a distinctive swell to the center of the grip, which is canvas covered, with a fine double twist wire. The blade is flat and unfullered, in cavalry length. The leather scabbard has a brass throat and middle mount with the distinctive large ring fixed mounts; the brass drag is also distinctive with two large balls on the end of the drag.

This sword may be found in Confederate Swords by Albaugh, back section page 23.  [gj] [ph:L]
