Offered here is a very rare, nice condition, original pack of artillery friction primers manufactured at the Richmond Arsenal in Virginia during the Civil War. These “primers” are what was placed in the cannon vent hole and attached to a lanyard to fire the piece.

Pack is constructed of a drilled wood block that held twelve copper friction primers. The block was wrapped in a plain tan paper, stenciled to read “12 FRICTION / PRIMERS / RICHMOND / ARSENAL 186[4]”, and varnished. The month “Jany” and the “4” in the date was hand written in ink and remains readable. The package has been opened, but the cloth tear-strip that was used to open the pack remains in place across the top. Four primers are still in the package.

Very nice, with top torn open, this package displays perfectly.    [jet][ph:L]

Note: Requires shipment via UPS.
