Large black leather cartridge box with early style long front leather cover. Wooden cartridge block to hold paper wrapped cartridges. Below the block is the hunting bag style leather pouch to hold flints, an early feature; later ones do not have this feature. The original leather over the shoulder sling is still attached to the cartridge box. The sling is brown leather, painted in white; the Americans were unable to get buff leather during the Revolution, & painted brown leather to look buff. The sling has a long rectangular buckle and a tin mounted tip on the end.

It is rare today to find early American cartridge boxes with the extra leather pouch and original sling, as in the last 200+ years most were poorly stored and deteriorated with time. This one is all complete.  [gj] [ph:L]
