This Colt martial revolver with serial number 60,160 was made in 1862. It is complete and rates as excellent in condition. It is a three-screw model and has an 8-inch barrel. The barrel has 85% factory blue coverage and with 15% scattered light age browning. The markings on the .44 caliber barrel are: "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT. NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA". The rifled bore is excellent. The small sub-inspector's letters "CC" are stamped to the right of the wedge. The wedge is numbered to the revolver; it and its surrounds on the right side show minor battering. The loading lever assembly shows the same surface tone as the barrel with lots of original case color.
"COLTS" over "PATENT" is visible on the left bottom of the case hardened in colors frame; virtually all expected case color is present, but colors have muted to a blue. The 6 shot cylinder has an excellent rolled naval scene and about 95% original factory blue; it reads: "COLTS PATENT No. 0160" over "PATENTED SEPT. 10th 1853". The nipples are all fine. The trigger, the hammer or cock show a good deal of original case-hardened color. The revolver tightly cocks and the cylinder rotates. The backstrap has a blue/gray patina and no evidence of pitting. The brass trigger guard assembly has an aged tone. The oil finished walnut grip fits the frame well and has good edges; there is some wear and a few small nicks. There are visible inspector's marks on both right and left sides of the grip; these are worn from hand or holster contact.
This revolver, made in the second year of the Civil War, is in truly excellent condition. [pe][ph:L]
