Leather pouch designed to hold four packs of friction primers and be carried on the gunner’s belt.
The leather on this pouch is in decent condition but shows use and wear. The latch tab was stitched to the underside of the flap. This tab is unbroken but has lost most of its black finish. The outer flap is clearly stamped “NAVY YARD / N.Y. / 1861”.
The body of the box and the single, wide belt loop on the back show moderate wear and use. Stitching is complete and unbroken. The bottom of the box retains a brass finial.
A great example of a used Civil War Navy primer pouch. [jet] [ph:L]
