This is a tool used by Civil War artillerymen. It has a narrow round iron rod for a handle with a small claw hammer on one end and tow hook on the other. The piece is nearly 14” long. The handle terminates with a 90-degree bend which then ends with a point. This “tow hook” end was used to remove the tow packing around the artillery shells in the limber. The small claw hammer was for tightening and repairing the sabot straps on fixed-ammunition projectiles.
Shows some use; metal is mostly clean and in good condition. [jet][ph:L]
