Here is a tin fuse igniter for Taylor’s time fuse.

The Taylor fuse was patented April 11, 1865, so did not see any use during the Civil War. The purpose of these tin “igniters” was to direct the flame and hot gases from the propellant charge directly into the fuse and ensure ignition of the paper time fuse.

Good condition with some of the original black paint chipped off.  [jet] [ph:L]
