Bormann fuses used a cleverly designed flat, circular powder train with a thin metal covering that could be pierced at any given point numbered to correspond with the burn time it would take for the flame to reach the bursting charge from the puncture once it had been ignited by the propellant charge. This is a wood handled example of the fuse punch, using a bulbous wood handle that would fit in the palm of the hand with a curving neck secured to the handle by a collar and having a V-notch at the end. The handle is is dark wood with two incised lines. The metal shows some shallow corrosion and a very clear “N.J.” stamp indicating it was state property, likely applied at state arsenal in Trenton. This is in solid condition and a key artillery tool.   [sr][ph:L]
