Civil War artillery gimlets were used to remove broken friction primers or other obstructions from the vent hole of a cannon tube.
This example shows very light surface rust, a wood handle with its original finish with no cracks, peened to a copper collar. The threads are in excellent condition. Measures 10.9” long. Handle measures 4” wide. [cm][ph:L]
