This is a sharp tool that was used to punch the Bormann time fuse at its proper “second” mark. It is 4 1/2” in length. The handle is made of cast brass and is half-moon shaped. The punch shaft is made of steel and has a light surface rust. The blade is peened to the handle by a rectangular shaft. These tools were thought to have been wood working tools that were pressed into service during the Civil War as fuse punches. There has been battlefield recovered specimens noted. [stp][ph:L]
