Including the Conquest of the West by General Stephen Watts Kearny. Published by G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 1937. By Thomas Kearny. 496 pp., ills. Blue glazed cloth, 9.5 x 6.25”, with gilt cover & spine lettering. Exhibits light wear at the extremities, else VG and handsome. A soldier of fortune, Kearney served in the Mexican War & later with Napoleon III’s Imperial Guard in the Italian War. At the outbreak of the American Civil war he received a Brigadier’s commission and commanded a Brigade of New Jersey troops in Franklin’s Division. A popular, charismatic commander, Kearny was tragically killed at Chantilly on Sept. 1, 1862.
1st Edition, inscribed and signed by the author (Gen. Kearny’s grandson). Fine biography of a fine soldier.
