The first of the three publications is a pamphlet entitled “BULLETIN OF THE VIRGINIA STATE LIBRARY” for July - October 1919 covering the “COLLECTION OF PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS, ENGRAVINGS, ETC… BY JOHN GADSBY CHAPMAN AND CONRAD WISE CHAPMAN IN THE VIRGINIA STATE LIBRARY” published in Richmond in 1920. The 104 pages list all of the library’s holdings relating to the Chapmans and giving a short description of each. Pamphlet is bound by staples, is in good condition and meas. approx. 6.00 x 9.00 inches.

The second publication in the group is a hardcover volume done in green cloth with the title on the spine in gold. Volume is titled “CONRAD WISE CHAPMAN 1842-1910: AN EXHIBITION OF HIS WORKS IN THE VALENTINE MUSEUM” published in Richmond in 1962. Volume runs 98 pages and gives a short history of Chapman’s life and war service as well as his travels after the war. The book includes some very nice full-color prints of Chapman’s work along with several black & white illustrations. The back of the book has a list of his works along with a selective bibliography on the subject. Book meas. approx. 8.00 x 10.50 inches.

The third volume in the group is a more substantial study of Chapman’s life and work published by Kent State University Press. The heavy hardcover volume with full color dust jacket is titled “CONRAD WISE CHAPMAN: ARTIST & SOLDIER OF THE CONFEDERACY” by Ben L. Bassham and is signed to a collector by the author on the title page. Volume meas. approx. 9.00 x 10.75 inches and runs 328 pages with the index. Binding and dustjacket are in excellent condition and the interior is clean. The book is printed on heavy coated stock and has black & white illustrations of many of Chapman’s works as well as a 16 page color section at center. Volume is in excellent condition.  [ad][ph:L]
