Published by Wright and Potter Printer, Boston, 1903. 50 pp., ills., roster. In blue glazed cloth, 9.5" x 6.25, w/gilt cover and spine lettering. Fine Condition.
The 1st Mass. Volunteer Militia was a three months unit that became the 1st Massachusetts Infantry, w/90 percent of the Militia signing on for three years. Excepting the battle of Antietam, this unit participated all the major engagements of the Army of the Potomac from McClellan's '62 peninsula Campaign through the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, after which they were mustered out. During service the 1st Mass. lost 142 men killed or mortally wounded and 79 by disease for a total of 221.
