The full title of this volume is “HISTORY OF THE FIFTIETH REGIMENT OF INFANTRY MASSACHUSETTS VOLUNTEER MILITIA IN THE LATE WAR OF THE REBELLION.”

The author is William B. Stevens who served as a member of Company C of the regiment. The book was published in Boston in 1907.

Volume is hardcover and meas. approx. 6.25 x 9.25 inches and runs 399 pages with index and roster and 44 portraits and illustrations.

Covers are dark blue with the title embossed in strong gold within a gold square above a 19th Corps badge also done in gold with a red circular center. Title and author’s name is in worn gold on the spine with white ink library markings at bottom. Both front and back covers are good and show only light wear. Binding is excellent. Interior is very clean. Inside front cover has a library label with a previous owner’s name neatly written in ink in top left corner of a blank page near the front.

The 50th Massachusetts was raised in October of 1862 and served nine months in the 19th Corps being engaged in the siege of Port Hudson and taking part in the failed assault of May 27, 1863. The regiment was mustered out August 24, 1863 having lost 3 officers and 102 men killed, died of wounds and disease.  [AD] [PH:L]
