The full title of this volume is “HISTORY OF THE 49TH PENNSYLVANIA VOLUNTEERS – A CORRECTLY COMPILED ROLL OF THE MEMBERS OF THE REGIMENT AND ITS MARCHES 1861-1865” by Robert S. Westbrook who served as a sergeant in Company B.
The history was originally published in 1898. This reprint was done by Butternut & Blue of Baltimore, Maryland in 1999.
Volume is hardcover and meas. approx. 6.50 x 11.00 inches and runs 321 pages with roster and index. The volume also contains several black & white photographs of members of the regiment.
Covers are done in black cloth with the title embossed in gold over a red 1st Division, 6th Corps badge. Title and badge are repeated on the spine.
The 49th Pennsylvania was organized in October of 1861 and served in the 4th and 6th Corps of the Army of the Potomac. They saw action on the Peninsula, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, assault on Petersburg, Winchester, the siege of Petersburg and Sailor’s Creek. In total the regiment lost 9 officers and 352 enlisted men killed and died of wounds and disease. [AD] [PH:L]
