Exhibits moderate wear at the extremities, plus light cover scratches, foxing of frontispiece, sun fading of spine. Else VG, with tight spine signatures. Scarce biography of the Chief Justice who presided over the “Dred Scott” decision that exacerbated sectional tension in the late 1850s. [jp] [ph:L]
