The official title of this book is “CLINICAL LECTURES OF CERTAIN ACUTE DISEASES” by Robert Bentley Todd M.D., FRS. And published by Blanchard and Lea of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1860.

Volume is hardbound in brown cloth with embossed linear and geometric decoration. Covers show minor edge wear and surface dirt.

Interior is good with only slight toning to page edges. Volume meas. 6.00 x 9.00 inches and runs 308 pages with 32 pages of advertisements at the back.

Top of the first blank page has a stamping of a former owner’s name however, lower down on the page is a very nice period ink inscription that reads “DR. ALVIN SATTERTHWAIT / SURGEON 12^TH N.J.V. / DEC. 12^TH 1864 / BEFORE PETERSBURG, VA. / 3 BRIG 2^ND DIV 2^ND A. CORPS.”

Dr. Alvin Satterthwaite served through more than a dozen battles—from Chancellorsville through the Petersburg and Richmond Campaign. He served a 3-month enlistment in the 4th New Jersey Infantry and then he returned to the army with the 7th New Jersey as its assistant surgeon, and went on to become the surgeon of the 12th New Jersey Infantry. He mustered out in June 1865 and died in 1873.  [ad][ph:L]
