The 9th Massachusetts Battery was organized on August 10, 1862. They initially served around Washington but were transferred to the Army of the Potomac in July of 1863 and served with them throughout the war. The battery is famous for the fierce fight they put up at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863. It is safe to say that they are one of most well known artillery batteries of the Union army during the Civil War. They also saw action at Spotsylvania, North Anna and throughout the Petersburg Campaign.   [AD] [PH:L]
