This book is a classic and rare volume of the well-known state publication series about Pennsylvania units in Civil War battles and their legacies of monuments and memorial events. Published in 1908 by the Harrisburg Publishing Company (state printer), this book details the dedications of each of the 2nd Brigade of the Pennsylvania Reserves’ monuments at Antietam.
The book is in good condition with a black cloth cover. A solid border design outlines the front of both boards and gold title text with accenting is noted along the spine. The cover shows very minimal fading and a nice overall condition. All corners of the boards are sharp, with very minor wear to the front lower right. A miniscule spot of snagged cloth on the right front edge is also noted.
All pages are clean and crisp and binding remains tight, except for the first 14 pages - the upper 2/3’s of which have separated but remain attached at low left. An older, embossed property stamp on the title page reads “THE WARREN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION. WARREN PA.” Overall measurements are 9.45” x 6.45”.
A rare book from the monumentation and memory period following the Civil War, focusing on some of the most popular and respected troops in the Army of the Potomac. A great piece for the Antietam enthusiast or anyone interested in the early efforts to define the legacy of Pennsylvania’s brave units. [cm] [ph:L]

Material related to Civil War military Chaplains is extremely hard to find. This is a commercially produced “officer’s style” haversack with a great stencil in white on the reverse indicating its owner was the “Chaplain / 15th Regt’ / Vt.… (2025-1851). Learn More »
