First Edition, First Printing of this iconic post-Civil War series devoted to the contributions of the numerous Pennsylvania units that fought at Antietam. Included within are descriptions of 13 Pennsylvania monuments at Antietam, along with details of dedication and memorial ceremonies. Published in 1906 by the Harrisburg Publishing Company, State Printer.
Cover is made of a royal blue cloth with a solid border pattern on both boards and gold-filled embossed title text on the spine. The spine is lightly faded with slight tearing in the cover along the bottom and top edges. Light corner wear is noted, with a 0.75” section of edge wear on the right front cover.
The front section (up to page 30) is somewhat loose in the binding and the first 3 pages are torn in 5” sections from the binding along the left upper edge – but are complete and the tears do not extend onto the pages. Remaining pages are in otherwise good condition with no notable foxing or edge damage. Overall measurements are 9.5” x 6.5”.
A rare and classic post-war book for those interested in early contributions to the popular memory of the Civil War. [cm] [ph:L]
