This scarce first edition predates the revised and expanded 1911 edition and chronicles the famous story of the Immortal Six Hundred Confederate Officer POW’s who were poorly treated in retaliation for the broader actions and policies of the Confederacy. The author, J. Ogden Murray held the rank of Major and numbered among the Immortals. This is the memoir’s first edition, published by The Eddy Press Corporation of Winchester, Virginia.
Cover is white cloth with gold gilt embossed text. Spine is straight and only minor board wear is noted at the corners and the edges of the spine. Separation of the front endpaper along the spine extends the length of the book but binding itself remains tight. Some staining is scattered across the cloth cover, with a few prominent spot stains at front and rear. All pages are complete and free of edge wear but light foxing and discoloration are present on the earlier pages of the book (through page 11). Dimensions are 5.5” x 7.4”.
A rare book for the collector of early, fine Civil War titles. [cm][ph:L]
