"TAKEN FROM COMMITTEE ROOMS OF THE REBEL HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES / APRIL 2, 1865." Reports of the Army of Northern Virginia, From June 1862, To and Including the Battle at Fredericksburg, Dec. 13, 1862. VOL. II. [See P & W 2406, Howes USiana L219, Harwell's Confederate 100 #20.] Richmond: R.M. Smith, Public Printer, 1864. 602 pp. Marbled boards, raised band, leather spine label "REBEL / NAVY REGISTER 1863 & DOCUMENTS". Measuring 5.75 x 9".
The above inscription "Taken from committee rooms of the Rebel House of Representatives/ April 2, 1865" is written in ink in the front end-papers, accompanied by an indecipherable set of initials, obviously penned by the occupying Union soldier who appropriated the book as a souvenir. In terms of condition, the book's cover exhibit light to medium wear and rubbing at the outer extremities. Text display medium foxing throughout but remains entirely legible. Legible also is the "taken from" inscription in the front eps. Else VG. An extraordinary imprint, captured at the fall of Richmond. [jp][ph:L]
