This is a fine copy of the journal of Lt. Col. Adam Hubley, Jr., awkwardly titled "ADM HUBLEY, JR., LT COLO. COMDT 11TH PENNA. REGT, HIS JOURNAL, COMMENCING AT WYOMING, JULY 30TH, 1779" was famously reprinted in 1909 and reviewed within the Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography. Edited by John W. Jordan, who provided historical context and notes.
The journal was published across several issues of the magazine in 1909 and also issued as this standalone 57-page reprint by J.B. Lippincott Company. Cloth hardcover, approximately 6” x 9”, included plates and facsimiles of Hubley's original maps and sketches. In very good condition in every way.
This journal provides a primary account of the Sullivan Expedition of 1779, a major Continental Army campaign against the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) during the American Revolution. It documents the movement of the 11th Pennsylvania Regiment starting from Wyoming, Pennsylvania, on July 30, 1779. Hubley's entries are noted for their detailed descriptions of the topography, the destruction of Native American settlements, and military maneuvers.
