“The Roll of Honor: Names of Soldiers Who Died in “Defence” of the American Union, interred in the Eastern District of Texas, Central District of Texas, Rio Grande District, Camp Ford/Tyler Texas, and Corpus Cristi” was published by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1866.  It documents the burial sites of Union soldiers who died in the region and was part of a larger 27-volume series compiled by the Quartermaster General's Office between 1865 and 1871.

The Texas portion of the booklet is complete, though the binding is loose (repaired with what appears to be archival tape) and the cover shows moderate chipping.  Another incomplete section from the same series of soldiers and sailors interred in North Carolina, Kansas, Arkansas, and North Dakota is mounted to the back of the Texas edition.

The covers the booklets have been joined by the aforementioned tape, with most pages loose as the string binding has broken.  Still, the period, primary information and the rarity of the publication make this an important Civil War book.  [cm][ph:L]
