The 16th Connecticut Infantry Regiment suffered a tragic and devastating defeat at the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862, due to an absolute lack of military training. Organized just three weeks prior, these raw volunteers were thrown into the bloodiest single-day battle in American history.  Of the 779 men present, over 400 were counted as casualties after A.P. Hill’s Division arrived late in the day to strike the left wing of the 9th Corps as it advanced toward Sharpsburg.

This small book, published by the Case, Lockwood, and Brainard Company of Hartford in 1889, provides a schedule, list of accommodations, and a unit action summary of Antietam written by Lieutenant B. F. Blakeslee.  The tour started on the 14th of September, with stops in Gettysburg, Hagerstown, and Antietam. The trip concluded on the 18th with their departure from Hagerstown.

The cover is royal blue cloth with gold-embossed text and cover design. Only very light wear to the corners and spine edges is noted.  Binding is tight and all pages are virtually as-new.  Dimensions are 5.9” x 4.1”.
