The Bugle Call was a celebrated 1863 booklet compiled by composer and music publisher George F. Root. Published in Chicago by Root & Cady, the pocket-sized pamphlet served as a crucial cultural artifact during the Civil War. This original 1863 edition contained dozens of inspiring anthems and the success and popularity of the songs led to expanded editions in later decades (such as the 1886 souvenir editions) containing up to 86 songs.

The book remains complete and measures 6.5” x 9.5”.  Light chipping to the edges of the covers is noted, with the rear cover being detached.  String binding at center remains tight.  Light age toning and minor foxing across the pages is observed, but condition is generally good.

A very neat piece for the collector of Civil War cultural items.   [cm][ph:L]
