This beautiful example of the 1862-published “Revised US Army Regulations (of 1861)” comes to us in an attractive and complete condition. The embossed blue cloth covering shows minimal wear, and gilt-finished text and eagle motif remain brilliant. Only one spot of the eagle is obscured by the remnant of an old adhesive tag. An Antiquarian Society of New Hampshire label on the inside front cover marks it as a one-time gift from Dr. Ira S. Chase. Dr. Chase signed the opposite flyleaf in pencil as “Ira S. Chase / Bristol, NH”. All pages are complete with virtually no wear or damage. Published by Lippincott and Company of Philadelphia. Binding remains tight. Cover dimensions measure 5.5” x 8.3”.
The one-time owner of the book, Ira Stephen Chase was born on 21 November 1816, in Gilmanton, Belknap, New Hampshire. He married Cordelia Page Simonds on 22 March 1849, in New Hampshire. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He died on 19 January 1892, in Bristol, New Hampshire at the age of 75, and was buried in Bristol.
A cornerstone book of the Civil War, in a very good condition. [cm][ph:L]
