An excellent, tight copy of the highly desirable 1905 revised and enlarged edition of the 150th Pennsylvania Volunteers regimental history. Originally published in 1895, this expanded 1905 edition was published in Philadelphia by F. McManus, Jr. & Co. and features crucial corrections, additional narrative details, and updated post-war roster notes.
The 150th Pennsylvania was one of the legendary "Bucktail" regiments, recruited in August and September 1862. As part of Stone’s Brigade (Rowley’s Division, First Army Corps), the regiment fought heroically on July 1, 1863, at the Battle of Gettysburg, holding the line under murderous fire near the McPherson Farm. Lieutenant-Colonel Chamberlin provides a first-hand account of this desperate fighting, as well as the regiment's subsequent heavy service through the Overland Campaign, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, and Petersburg.
This volume is complete with an updated, detailed roster of personnel, company by company, listing casualties, promotions, and prisoners of war. Richly illustrated with period photographic portraits of the officers and key battlefield maps. While the 1895 version is technically the first edition, the 1905 printing is often more desirable to researchers and collectors because it includes the massively expanded personnel roster detailing final casualties, post-war lives, and updated operational corrections
This example remains bound in the original publisher's dark blue cloth with crisp, bright gold gilt lettering and a stamped regimental bucktail motif on the spine. The cloth shows minor shelf wear and light bumping to the corners and spine tips. The binding is generally strong, with a leaf separation between pages 112 and 113. Internally, the pages are clean and bright with no significant foxing, tears, or staining. A laser copied Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States program from Lt. Colonel Chamberlin’s funeral is tucked inside, and features an ownership stamping from descendant Alex Chamberlin of Pennsylvania.
A highly collectible, clean example of a scarce Pennsylvania regimental history with premier Gettysburg association. [cm][ph:L]
