Cut sweetmeat jar that could be used as a sugar bowl. This jar was made in either the US or England 1820-1840. It is beautifully cut with a wide band of strawberry diamonds on the original cover and around the mid-section of the bowl. The cover is topped with a star-cut button final, which is unfortunately, chipped on one side. In addition to the diamond cutting, the perfect bowl also has a notched rim and a band of diagonal blazes around the lower section, all supported on a short stem with a compressed medial knop. The underside of the foot is cut with a large star to hide the pontil mark. Overall height 6 1/2" which includes the cover. [LJ] [ph:L]
